These five monologues introduce us to five African-American women important to our American heritage. These women include Phyllis Wheatley, Phebe Attucks, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, and Gwendolyn Brooks.

In honor of Black History Month and Women’s History Month, this show is being offered for free online. We hope you will share it far and wide. And, of course, enjoy the show.

Women and One Acts
2021

Women and One Acts (Stories of Mothers and Daughters) 2022 is taking place in person. Please see our 2022 season page for more details.

Our Women and One Acts program is all about making sure women's stories get told. To honor Sexual Assault Awareness month, we've partnered with Turning Point Counseling & Advocacy Center to bring you a three-part series of videos titled "In Her Own Words." These are stories from actual survivors of sexual assault. Let us spread the message - you're not alone, your story matters, and it's never too late to heal.

Weary Arts Group and
TAFE Partnership

Theatre Arts for Everyone (TAFE) & Weary Arts Group (WAG) are partnering to bring the York community plays by Idris Goodwin and a panel discussion on the topics brought to life via these shows. Goodwin is an award winning playwright, poet and visionary. Goodwin believes “Theatre is where we see ourselves and wrestle with our beliefs. Through the stories of others we reflect on our own.” The stories are meant to be a catalyst to promote positive conversation about race in America. All of these plays are available streaming for free below.
