Calling all stars of the silver screen! TAFE is thrilled to announce auditions for our upcoming production of Singin’ in the Rain Sr., a joyful celebration of Hollywood’s Golden Age designed specifically for performers aged 55 and better. This production is fully accessible and whether you are a seasoned pro or have never stepped foot on a stage, we provide a supportive, low-pressure environment where your talent can shine. We are looking to cast a vibrant ensemble of 25–30 performers to bring these iconic characters to life. We are also seeking dedicated crew members to help behind the scenes with costumes, props, set, and tech. No previous experience is necessary—just a love for the arts and a willingness to "make a splash" with a wonderful community of peers!
SHOW SYNOPSIS
Singing in the Rain Sr is a 60-Minute Adaptation of the MGM Movie Musical for performers ages 55+
ROLES
DON LOCKWOOD
The quintessential Hollywood leading man. He is suave, charismatic, and a bit of a romantic. This role is perfect for someone with a great "storytelling" voice and a confident stage presence.
KATHY SELDEN
An aspiring actress with a heart of gold. She is sincere, talented, and holds her own against the big studio stars. We are looking for someone who can project warmth and kindness.
COSMO BROWN
Don’s best friend and the studio’s resident jokester. This is a high-energy, comedic role for someone who loves to make people laugh. Great facial expressions and a sense of rhythm are a plus!
LINDA LAMONT
The silent film queen with a "shrieking" personality. This is a brilliant comedic role—singing ability is actually discouraged for this character! Perfect for someone who wants to lean into a funny, exaggerated voice and physical comedy.
R.F. SIMPSON
The head of Monumental Pictures. A position of authority but with a soft spot for his stars. This is a great role for someone who enjoys playing a "boss" with a sense of humor.
ROSCOE DEXTER
The high-strung, perpetually stressed-out film director.
DORA BAILEY
A flashy, eccentric Hollywood gossip columnist. She opens the show with excitement!
THE ENSEMBLE
This is the "heart" of our show! The ensemble plays movie stars, chorus girls, studio employees, movie star fans, students, and assistants. These roles are beginner-friendly and can be adapted for any mobility level, focusing on group songs and fun atmosphere.

General Audition Information:
An audition is one of the first pieces of a production. Whether this is your first audition or your hundredth, we would love to have you, no experience is required. Every theatre and director will do things a little differently. For main stage shows here at TAFE, everyone interested in being involved in any capacity needs to fill out an audition form. There’s no need to prep any lines, just bring yourself and a list of availability during the rehearsal period. Children under 18 must bring their parents as well.
We will call you back to read and audition with a group. This means that the first person at auditions may not be the first person to audition, as they may not fit into the group being auditioned first. We do try to take younger kids first when and if possible.
Audition material will be provided for you. Helpers are available for those who need help reading. You may leave as soon as you read unless you are asked to read again. We try to give everyone an equal amount of time so you can expect to have some wait time – we encourage all to bring a book/homework! First-timers and experienced performers all receive the same consideration. Feel free to ask questions and visit with the other parents and people auditioning.
TAFE is an educationally oriented community theatre, thus our focus is on people of all ages both in the show and in the audience. GOOD SHOW!
